I guess it's time to get this part of the forum going with an impromptu launch report on our impromptu launch. This will be more of an impressions kind of report since Gary has all the flight cards with specific rockets, fliers and statistics.
Personally, I had a great time at the 2015 TMO Shakedown Launch held on Halloween Day 2015. We had a great turnout for a launch that was only planned one week ago and considering the Midwest Power is/was going on we did not expect a huge gathering here. We had rockets of all sizes launch from A through L motors. From a couple of hundred feet high to over 8000 feet high.
Gary was in close contact with the FAA pretty much all day so things went well there.
We had some friends come out that I haven't seen for a while and met some new friends. I was reminded of a earlier time when folks gathered to fly rockets, share information, share stories, some of them even true, and just enjoy each others' company.
The day was a bit windy, as usual, when you are on a wide open space such as we have at South Charleston, Ohio, but it was pretty steady and not a problem. Besides those long walks to retrieve your rocket give you plenty of time to contemplate that next project or to rethink just exactly what altitude you are going to set the main at next time. The clouds seemed low hanging early in the day but as the day progressed we realized they were pretty hgh after all. The sun even tried to poke through a couple of times and the clouds ended up not being a factor.
I invited a good friend of mine to the launch who had forsaken rocketry for R/C model flying and he did have a miraculous conversion. He spent most of the afternoon with us and even helped us put equipment away at the end of the launch. Later we received an email that he was coming back to the fold. Once this stuff gets in your blood you can suppress it for a short period of time but eventually it takes over your life. Welcome back Roger.
Thanks to everyone who planned, organized, helped, attended, flew, and just generally supported us at this launch. We have a great group of folks.
Next launch is November 14, 2015. I look forward to seeing everyone again.
